Sydney Indesign; aka a candy shop for a design lover
August 15, 2015
Our lovely architect (of Prescott Architects) gave us a heads up on this weekend's Sydney Indesign - a trade fair of bespoke, technical, and asthetically innovative designs, right here in Australia. Speaking to many of the designers today at the smaller stalls showed how passionately this bunch of talent is pushing to support homegrown innovation and manufacturing. Boy, was I in heaven for an hour today...
My workspace is covered in brochures and business cards from stalls covering bathroomwares, lighting, kitchen tapware, benchtop materials, flooring, textiles, and outdoor and indoor furniture and furnishings.
Here are some favourites and links to their websites...
LUXE by ISM
I 100% agree with their tag line "objects of affection"
If you had a small kitchen island, or a small bathroom, these polished brass tube pendants would be a good option - i can see them as bedside lights, and the wall fixtures are perfect for next to a study desk, or artwork.
Janus et cie predominantly specialises in outdoor furniture, however many of their designs are perfectly fitting for the interior. This dining table is absolutely stunning - and i'm putting it on the wish list post reno.
Supplier of BARBERA, Marz Designs, Mr & Mrs White, and designs in their own range
A few things caught my eye at the Catapult stall, but it was the Bronze Round table that caught my eye. There are a number of finishes available, but i loved the brushed brass and marble one on show. The wall mounted lights and occasional chairs are also divine, and it's hard to go past the timber Abacus lights by Marz.
I love the juxtaposition of concrete, hard matt black surfaces and metallics...well i found a couple of guys that do too...four in fact, from Pop Plus in Brisbane.
These are industrial designers taking the roughness of concrete, and refining it so delicately into stunning drop pendants, shelving, vanities, benchtops and, well, they tell me anything really. I really love their stuff and i am stoked to find a high quality, concrete product designer to supply Sydney projects (as Tomas Vacek is a little far away!)
I can see the Toob Pendant light above the staircase.
The photos here don't do justice to this large stainless steel pendant that is made up of geometric facets, precisely lazer cut, and fitted back together so that they sit tightly in harmony, but move gracefully as the pendant sways.
Perfect for a stairwell void or high ceiling entrance way feature.
Super funky baths, taps, basins by this trendy bunch
I've been looking at stone baths for a while now and have seen a few that i like, but don't love. Well thank goodness i have come across agape. They have a substantial range of satin-soft stone baths, and basins.
How cool is this black, drum inspired Vieques Vasca bathtub, and matching drum stand basins.
